Leicester City’s wonderful Premier League triumph last season will go down as one of the greatest ever upsets in sporting history, but that does not mean the Foxes will be looking to rest on their laurels during the upcoming campaign.
With the pressure that comes with being defending champions, as well as the additional rigours of Champions League football, manager Claudio Ranieri has been taking a proactive approach in the transfer market, especially with star players such as Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante consistently being touted to leave.
As a potential replacement for Kante, a recent report from the Mirror claimed that Leicester are on the verge of securing the services of Nice midfielder Nampalys Mendy for a fee in the region of £12 million.
Ranieri is now said to be looking at options to reinforce his attack and Poland star Bartosz Kapustka has been mentioned by FourFourTwo as a target for the Foxes.
Kapustka is considered as one of the finest young players in Europe at the moment and the 19-year-old has managed to catch the attention of the world following fine performances at the European Championships in France.
Currently plying his trade for Cracovia, Kapustka is certain to be earning a move to one of Europe’s top leagues this summer and a move to Leicester is a distinct possibility.
Given their qualification into the Champions League, Leicester are able to afford high profile names and Kapustka may not necessarily be a player who would capture the imagination of the fans at first glance.
Nonetheless, Leicester City should go all out in order to land the 19-year-old sensation. Admittedly, Kapustka has not yet proved himself at the highest club level and the Champions League could prove to be a baptism of fire for the youngster.
While last season’s events proved that one can only underestimate Leicester at their own peril, it is difficult to see the Foxes claiming the title or even a Champions League spot during the upcoming campaign. As a result, spending huge amounts on high profile names perhaps would not be the way to go.
On the other hand, Leicester’s title victory last term gives them a great opportunity to attract burgeoning young stars who normally would perhaps not consider a move to the King Power and Kapustka is certainly one of those players.
Signing players such as Mendy and Kapustka would help Leicester build for a sustained period of future success, similarly in the manner at which they did in the Championship by acquiring the services of Riyad Mahrez and Danny Drinkwater among others not too long ago.
Kapustka is expected to cost in excess of £10 million but his potential his huge and the stunningly level headed Polish star would be a low risk, high reward signing for the Foxes in the years to come.
