Could Sheffield Wednesday's Benfica talks lead them to former Nottingham Forest loan star?

If recent reports are anything to go by, Sheffield Wednesday should already have stored Benfica's contact details.

By all accounts, the Portuguese champions are set to headline the Owls' pre-season schedule, with a July 20 date at Hillsborough proposed.

And Wednesday should use their newly-struck friendship advantageously.

The Owls are widely assumed to be seeking a new centre-forward his summer, with Steven Fletcher (Sun), Ross McCormack (Mail) and Lee Gregory (Mail) all linked in recent weeks.

As luck would have it, though, Benfica recently put one of their own up for sale.

Nelson Oliveira is no longer wanted in Lisbon, O Jogo reported on Friday - however, that doesn't mean he couldn't do a job in the Steel City.

During his loan to Nottingham Forest last season, Oliveira found the net nine times in 29 appearances - a far better return than Wednesday strikers Lucas Joao (six in 40) and Atdhe Nuhiu (three in 41), and in a team that scored 23 fewer goals overall.

Add to that his 6ft 1 frame, two good feet and sudden burst of pace, the 24-year-old - who has 16 caps for Portugal don't forget - is an obvious upgrade on the pair - and a player the likes of Gary Hooper and Fernando Forestieri (who scored 28 between them last term) wish Joao and Nuhiu could be.

A recently-lifted transfer embargo, not to mention the appointment of another Portuguese, Pedro Pereira, as director of football, means Forest could return for Oliveira this summer - so the Owls may have to act fast.

However, if Wednesday are lucky, when Benfica arrive at Hillsborough next month they'll come bearing gifts.
