4-4-2 with six new signings... Here's how Aston Villa's team could look for the 2016/17 season

Aston Villa are one of the favourites to be promoted from the Championship next season.

New manager Roberto Di Matteo poses after the press conference

With the summer transfer window edging ever closer, we take a look at how Aston Villa’s team might look next season.

Goalkeeper: Costel Pantilimon

Pantilimon has been linked with a move to Villa, following Roberto Di Matteo’s arrival. Signing a new goalkeeper will be high up on the Claret and Blues’ list of priorities.

Right-back: Jores Okore

Okore may be more comfortable at centre-back, but he has shown that he has the credentials to play on the right hand side of Villa’s defence before.

The Danish international was expected to leave Villa when they were relegated, but his agent has suggested that the powerful defender may be willing to stay.

Centre-back: Tommy Elphick

Bournemouth's Tommy Elphick

Elphick is set to become a Villa player in the next few days, and the former Bournemouth man looks likely to be a key addition.

Centre-back: Ciaran Clark

Clark is Villa through and through. He could have a big role to play next term.

Left-back: Jordan Amavi

If Villa can keep hold of Amavi, he will surely start for them.

Right-midfield: Jack Grealish

Grealish has been tipped to move to a number of Premier League sides, but Di Matteo is likely to want to keep the youngster at Villa. He will be a standout player in the Championship.

Central-midfield: Ashley Westwood

Westwood will be required to step up next season, when he should be one of Villa’s top performers.

Central-midfield: Graham Dorrans

Villa are chasing the Scotland international, who Di Matteo linked up with while at West Bromwich Albion earlier in his managerial career.

Left-midfield: Robbie Brady

The Norwich City winger has been tipped to be on Di Matteo’s Villa wishlist and would be a very astute signing.

Striker: Dwight Gayle

Villa will need to sign a front man this summer, and Gayle appears to be on their wishlist. Crystal Palace are likely to sell the 25-year-old this summer.

Striker: Ross McCormack

Leeds' Ross McCormack

McCormack could be Villa’s big money buy this summer, and he looks set to guarantee goals to the Midlands club if he does sign.
