Speculation is rife that Newcastle United want to sign West Ham United starlet Reece Oxford on loan next season.

The Sun reported that the 17-year-old midfielder is on Rafael Benitez's radar as the Spaniard looks to win promotion to the Premier League for the Magpies.

August will mark 12 months since Oxford burst on to the scene at the age of 16 by starring in West Ham's opening-day 2-0 win at Arsenal last season.

He has an abundance of talent and supporters of the Irons seem happy enough to see him loaned to Newcastle in a bid to aid his development.

West Ham are a club with big ambitions but the sad truth is that there may not be room for raw, 17-year-olds in Slaven Bilic's ranks next season.

He may have impressed at times during the 2015-16 campaign, but Bilic would be wise not to rely on a player that young this early.

The Croatian manager is trying to build something special in East London and, short term, Oxford may have no part of that, but given his ability, the youngster will figure prominently in West Ham's long-term plans.
