West Ham United defender Stephen Hendrie is close to joining Blackburn Rovers on loan, reports the Daily Mail.

The full back is yet to make a senior appearance for the Hammers since joining from Hamilton for £1million last summer.

Instead he had a spell on loan at Southend United last season making five appearances in total after joining them in the January transfer window.

He clearly must have caught the eye of Blackburn Rovers, who are now looking to take him on loan for next season, according to the Daily Mail.

New Rovers boss Owen Coyle is keen to add to his squad this summer as they look to improve on several disappointing seasons in the Championship.

He has already signed striker Anthony Stokes on a free transfer following his release by Celtic and is looking to sign Sunderland striker Danny Graham permanently after a loan spell at Ewood Park last season.

West Ham are clearly keen to see their young stars get game time out on loan in the lower leagues rather than playing in the reserves and Hendrie appears to be the latest to follow that path.
