Report: Newcastle United rejected Dundee bid for Sean Longstaff

The Scottish side made a loan move for the Newcastle United youngster.

Newcastle United have turned down an approach from Dundee United for youngster Sean Longstaff, reports the Chronicle.

The midfielder has impressed in the Magpies youth ranks, recently catching the eye in the Hong Kong Football Club City Soccer Sevens where his side made it to the semi finals.

Indeed, there is certainly faith in him with the club recently extending his scholarship deal at St James’ Park.

Rafa Benitez’s team are now keen for the youngster to get first team experience next season to continue his development.

That had alerted Dundee United, with the Chronicle reporting that Tangerines manager Ray McKinnon wanted the youngster on loan for the upcoming campaign.

However, that was rejected by Newcastle, who prefer to take a closer look at their young star during pre-season training first.

He is likely to be in the squad for the pre-season tournament in Corby next month; which sees them take on the Northamptonshire side and PSV Eindhoven in the Steel Cup.

That will give the Magpies the chance to assess the youngster and then decide upon where they could send him.
