He scored a late winner to seal a victory over Romania in the opening game, while he also added a late second in the defeat of Albania.

Aside from his goals he has generally been their star performer, becoming the creative force in the side as they look win the tournament on home soil. And Deschamps has hailed his performances, but surprisingly believes that the Hammers star can do more.

"He has done well. The saviour if you like. He's able to produce a lot more,” the Express reports him saying.

Payet will now be keen to continue his fine performances and lead France to glory on home soil this summer.

The pressure is very much on them and Payet to perform this summer, but so far he has reveled in that pressure and emerged as the star man in the squad.

If they are to go far they will need him to continue his current form, and every indication so far suggests he has no plans on dropping off just yet.
