The midfielder became Arsenal’s first signing of the summer transfer when he completed a £30million plus move from Borussia Monchengladbach last month.
Switzerland's Granit Xhaka after the match
His arrival has been warmly welcomed by the fan base, who are hoping he will be the combative midfielder that they have long wanted to see in their side.
He is currently starring for Switzerland at Euro 2016, with a series of impressive performances having caught they eye of any Gunners fans watching.
Murphy is one who has been impressed, but says his major concern is regarding the Swiss midfielder’s defensive abilities.
“I think he looks an Arsenal type player,” he said during the BBC’s live coverage of the game.
“My only concern is his defensive abilities. He’s not a super athlete and he’s not someone who will get at you and close you down. But from a footballing perspective, he’s very good.”

Murphy's comments on Xhaka will come as something of a surprise given that the defensive side of the game is where he excelled for Borussia Monchengladbach last season.
Per game he managed 2.4 tackles, 2.7 interceptions, 1.6 clearances and 3.4 aerials in the Bundesliga, which are impressive stats to say the least.
They suggest that he is in fact pretty strong in that department and show that Murphy may be wrong in the conclusions he has formed based on Xhaka’s displays at Euro 2016.
