According to the Bournemouth Echo, Tommy Elphick has cut his honeymoon short to move to Aston Villa.
Elphick was in Italy, but he has returned early from holiday to undergo a medical at Villa.
The centre-back is now expected to become Roberto Di Matteo’s first signing at the Claret and Blues, with his move set to go through early next week.
Villa have paid Bournemouth £3 million for the 28-year-old, who they believe will enhance their defensive options.
Bournemouth had been hoping to keep hold of Elphick, and offered him a new deal after Villa lodged a bid, but the former Stockport man wanted to move elsewhere.
Villa were prepared to offer Elphick a three-year contract, and that was decisive in ensuring that he would make the move to Villa Park.
Elphick felt the increased security that Villa were prepared to offer him made the move attractive.
Elphick is set to be one of a number of signings Di Matteo makes at Villa this summer, with the Italian manager keen to bolster his squad.
