Celtic youngster Ryan Christie has spoken of his determination to leave an impression on new boss Brendan Rodgers this summer, in an interview with the club’s official website.

“We’re back in training on Monday and I’m hoping to hit the ground running,” said Christie.

“We have a lot of big games before the league starts so it’s important to impress the manager straight away. I’ve not had a chance to speak to him yet but I’m looking forward to meeting him and seeing what his ideas are.”

The 21-year old was signed from Inverness CT in August last year and was due to spend the season on loan there. A knee injury forced his return to Parkhead in November however and he remained in Glasgow for the rest of the campaign, making five appearances and grabbing his first Celtic goal in the process.

“I’ve been looking forward to starting work with him since he was announced,” added Christie. “The appointment shows how big a club Celtic really are and the kind of manager we can attract. It shows we’re very positive.

“My mindset going into training next week is it’s a clean slate and it’s your job to impress him every day in training and hopefully get in his thoughts for the season ahead.”

Christie arrived highly-rated from Inverness and will be expected to start making an impact in the Celtic first-team sooner rather than later.

He faces tough competition to break into a packed Celtic midfield but will fancy himself as a good fit for Rodgers’ passing game, and will be keen to impress in upcoming pre-season friendlies.

Excitement is building around Parkhead after the arrival of the former Liverpool boss and fans are eager to see how far Rodgers can take this Celtic side after an underwhelming period with Ronny Deila at the helm.

His arrival, coupled with the return of Rangers to the top flight, has stoked up neutral interest in the SPL again and will undoubtedly make for an interesting watch next season.
