Erik Lamela grabbed his second goal in as many games as Argentina booked their place in the Copa America semi-finals with a 3-0 win over Venezuela.

The Tottenham Hotspur forward scored four minutes after coming off the bench in the second half, turning a Lionel Messi pass goalwards with it somehow managing to squirm under Dan Hernandez.

Lamela has appeared in all four games for Argentina so far, starting one and appearing as substitute in the other three, and bagging another goal will do no harm for his chances of involvement against the USA in the semi-finals.

The 24-year old enjoyed a fine campaign for Spurs last season and looks to have taken that form onto the international stage, and this will come as great news for Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Much has been said about the Lilywhites’ need to strengthen in attacking areas this summer, and Lamela will be aware that he will likely have a fight on his hands to retain his starting spot should new forward options arrive.

He has overcome adversity before however, after a torrid start to life in England, and he will be in no mood to give up his new found status at White Hart Lane.
