The Fenerbahce star has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham.
Spain's Alvaro Morata in action with Turkey's Mehmet Topal
Turkey took on Spain in the European Championships yesterday and it was a game they would like to forget. One of their players in particular who would like to forget all about it would be Tottenham Hotspur linked Mehmet Topal.
Last month Turkish sources, including Karar, reported that Tottenham had already agreed a pre-contract agreement with the midfielder ahead of a summer Bosman move.

But last night he featured in a central defence position and struggled immensely.
First of all, he lost his man and failed to step out as Nolito’s cross was whipped in onto the head of Alvaro Morata – who finished with aplomb.

He then looped a poor headed clearance up into the air and Nolito finished expertly beyond Volkan Babacan.
Topal is certainly a better option in the heart of midfield, but after his horror-show Tottenham fans would have wondered what all the fuss was about.
But don’t fear, his current club Fenerbahce confirmed a week ago that he would be signing a new deal at the club after Euro 2016.
Based on the evidence of last night, thankfully so for Spurs.
Here is how Turkish and generic football fans reacted to his performance…

Calhanoglu has been pitiful , can't blame Topal, he isn't a centre back— Eren van Basten (@TurkzZ) June 17, 2016
Topal is one of the best CDM in the world. Not CB.— Jukkis Savolainen (@juginho1) June 17, 2016
Where was your brain when you let Topal play as a CB and Arda Turan as a FW next to Cenk Tosun instead of Burak Yılmaz?— Fener Int (@fenerint) June 18, 2016
