According to Tuttomercatoweb, Watford are rivalling Crystal Palace for Inter Milan’s Davde Santon.
The report claims that Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio is in England for transfer talks and Santon is expected to be a major topic with Watford and Palace keen on his signature.
Watford, however, arguably have an advantage due to their Italian ties via the Pozzo family and newly-appointed manager Walter Mazzarri will know all about the player from his time at Inter.
Santon has Premier League experience having played for Newcastle, and the versatile defender has plenty to offer as he is capable of playing in any position across the back four.
The 25-year-old hasn’t featured all too regularly under current Inter boss Roberto Mancini, prompting plenty of speculation over his future at the club with a transfer away deemed likely.
Santon is an Italy international having made eight appearances for the national team, and during his spell with the Magpies he made an impressive 82 league appearances in three seasons on Tyneside.
Watford will be keen to bolster their squad as they look to consolidate themselves in the top-flight, and a switch to the Hornets would make plenty of sense for all parties involved.
