Manchester United are interested in signing Chelsea full back Cesar Azpilicueta, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

Former Chelsea boss José Mourinho is a huge fan of the full back, making him an irreplaceable figure in the Blues starting eleven during his time at Stamford Bridge.

It was under the Portuguese manager that Azpilicueta was used effectively to oust Ashley Cole at left-back, despite the Spaniard predominantly preferring the right side of defence.

And it appears that Mourinho is keen on a reunion with the former Marseille defender, who featured readily under Mourinho and Guus Hiddink last season, making 37 league appearances.

According to AS, Antonio Conte is open to offers for the Spanish international, and may accept bids of around the €15 million (£11.8 million) mark.

United are not the only club thought to be interested in taking Azpilicueta off Chelsea’s books, with PSG and Athletic Bilbao also keen.

Bilbao’s strict transfer policy restricts the purchase of any players who are not from the Basque region, however, Azpilicueta does fit into that bracket, and the Basque club may fight tooth and nail to bring him to North West Spain.

Azpilicueta signed for Chelsea from Marseille in 2012 for a reported fee of £7 million (The Guardian), and he has since made over 120 appearances for the club, making his international debut during his time in West London.

The full back is currently with the Spain squad in France for Euro 2016, and he featured as a second half substitute in their 3-0 demolition of Turkey on Friday evening
