The former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder spent a couple of hours discussing all things Rangers with Souness.
Souness was the player-manager of the Scottish giants from 1986 until 1991 and was a massive success and is now considered a club legend.
Under the former Liverpool midfielder, Rangers won the league title thrice and the Scottish League Cup on four occasions.
Barton has been speaking to the former Newcastle manager, and he seems to have been impressed.

Barton is a high-profile signing for Rangers, who will feature in the Scottish Premiership next season.
Mark Warburton’s side won the Scottish Championship title with ease during the 2015-16 campaign.
However, the Gers will be find it tough in the Scottish top flight next season, although the fans will want the team to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Barton will be a key player for Rangers and will add bite to the team’s midfield. The 33-year-old former Manchester City midfielder remains a very good footballer.
