Former Leeds United boss Steve Evans is poised to land the vacant manager's job at League One Oldham Athletic.

Oldham have been searching for a new manager since John Sheridan left the club to join Notts County earlier this summer.

Evans has emerged as Oldham's top target to replace Sheridan as they look to bring in a new manager within the next week.

Evans parted company with Leeds at the end of May as the Whites chose not to extend his rolling contract opting to appoint former Swansea boss Garry Monk as his replacement.

The Scot took over at Leeds last October and picked up 14 wins from his 38 games in charge to secure Leeds' survival in the Championship.

Evans has experience of working in League One having worked with Rotherham and Crawley outside the top two divisions and Oldham see him as the man to transform their fortunes.

Evans is keen to get back into management as soon as possible and he has been linked with a number of jobs, but it appears Oldham could be set to pull a coup by luring Evans to the League One club
