He has told Sport Foot Magazine today about how he had become used to playing at right-back for his nation but that he was happy to do a job in any position:
“I play where the coach asks me. I knew I was staying on a good season in the middle and that I could change it. The advantage of having played the entire season is that I can operate the trigger quickly.
“Right-back has somewhat become my appointed position with the national team.”

Alderweireld came into the tournament off the back of an exceptional season with Tottenham but found himself caught out against the Italians.
