Speaking to the club’s official website, former Everton defender John Heitinga says John Stones will love playing under Ronald Koeman.

The former Southampton boss was confirmed as the new Everton manager this week, replacing Roberto Martinez after he was sacked last season.

His appointment has been warmly welcomed at the club because of the excellent work he did with the Saints during the last two seasons.

Heitinga is one of those who have hailed his arrival, and says that the likes of John Stones will find it is a pleasure to play under the Dutchman’s leadership.

“I think it is going to be a pleasure for players like John Stones, for example,” he told evertonfc.com.

“Ronald has seen everything, he has worked with the biggest players, not only with the Dutch teams but also with Barcelona as well.”

First and foremost, Koeman must fight to convince Stones to remain at the club this summer.

The defender has been heavily linked with an exit from the club, with Manchester United and Manchester City both credited with an interest in his services.

Stones will be tempted by both of those clubs, and the prospect of playing under Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola next season.

Everton and Koeman will be reluctant to sell him though, and Everton will be hoping he can do enough to convince Stones that Goodison Park is where he should be playing next season.
