Owls right-back Marnick Vermijl spent last season on loan at Deepdale.
Vermijl scored twice for Preston
Vermijl played 32 times while on loan with the Lilywhites last season and impressed enough to remain on Simon Grayson's radar, the report claims.
However, an immediate return to Deepdale seems unlikely, with the Post reporting the Belgian will begin pre-season back at his parent club, for whom he’s made just 11 appearances since joining from Manchester United in January 2015.
Vermijl has made only a handful of Wednesday appearances
Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal last month hinted that Vermijl was still part of his Owls plans, after being asked about a potential move for Galatasaray right-back Sabri Sarioglu.
"We are very good in (that) position," Carvalhal told BBC Radio Sheffield. "We have also Marnick (Vermijl), who is playing on loan at Preston, and he did a very good season."
That said, the 24-year-old faces a difficult battle to oust regular right-back Jack Hunt at Hillsborough, while Liam Palmer has also performed reliably in the latter's absence.

Should Vermijl return to Preston permanently, he could be joined by another ex-Owl in Blackburn Rovers left-back Tommy Spurr.
The Post reported on Thursday that Spurr, who is out of contract at Blackburn Rovers, is a summer target for the Lilywhites.
