Newcastle United are 'keeping tabs' on Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg, having been alerted to the Northern Irishman while scouting Adam Armstrong, reports the Shields Gazette.

However, sources in the North West suggest it would require a 'huge offer' to prise the 28-goal star away from the DW Stadium.

Grigg, a £900,000 signing from Brentford a year ago, is currently at Euro 2016 with Michael O'Neill's side, but is yet to make an appearance in France.

The 24-year-old made headlines last season, both on and off the pitch, due to a combination of his goalscoring exploits and the popular terrace chant which followed.

However, Grigg, who scored 22 goals for Milton Keynes Dons the previous campaign, wasn't the only prolific hitman in England's third tier last season - Newcastle's Armstrong also caught the eye during a loan spell at Coventry City, leading to alleged interest from a number of Championship clubs and Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock.

And according to the Shields Gazette, Grigg is not at the top of Rafa Benitez's wishlist.

Perhaps Armstrong's presence has something to do with that?
