Jamie Ward made the most of a start for Northern Ireland by playing a key role in their big win at Euro 2016.

After playing just 14 minutes as a substitute in their 1-0 loss to Poland, he was included from kick-off as Michael O'Neill rung the changes for their vital clash with Ukraine.

He played 69 minutes of the 2-0 victory, taken off with the score at 1-0, for Niall McGinn, who grabbed the second in stoppage time.

Ward created two goalscoring chances, a figure matched by three but not bettered by any Northern Ireland player, while his one shot at goal landed off target.

He caused Ukraine problems on the wing, winning five free-kicks, while he made two interceptions and picked up a booking as he sought to also contribute defensively.

He had a mixed campaign with injuries restricting him to just 20 starts, plus a further 11 substitute appearances, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
