Former Celtic midfielder Alan Thompson has revealed to The Glasgow Evening Times the message he has sent to Rangers midfielder Joey Barton.
Barton recently joined Scottish giants Rangers on a free transfer after leaving Premier League-bound Burnley.
The former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder is a high-profile signing for Scottish Premiership-bound Rangers, who will feature in the top flight of Scottish football for the first time since 2012.
Former Celtic midfielder Thompson worked with Barton at Newcastle, and he has said that he is open to advising the Englishman on how to settle into life in Glasgow and conduct himself in the city.
The former Manchester City midfielder recently made some bold comments about Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and midfielder Scott Brown.
Brown is one of the best midfielders in the Scottish Premiership, but Barton told talkSPORT that the Scotland international is not in his league.
The new Rangers signing also took a dig at new Celtic manager Rodgers, highlighting to The Mirror the fact that the former Liverpool and Swansea City boss has not won anything.
“I sent Joey a message telling him that he knows where I am but I do think he needs to think a wee bit about how he goes about his business,” Thompson told The Glasgow Evening Times.
“He needs to think carefully about where he wants to live and what kind of environment he will be in if he wants to go out for a meal or whatever,” added the former Newcastle and Leeds United midfielder. “That is the kind of thing I have told him that he needs to ask the club about.”
Rangers will be expected by many to compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season.
