West Ham United star Dimitri Payet is close to breaking one of Zinedine Zidane’s impressive records for France.

The midfielder has so far been the star of the tournament for the hosts, putting in top drawer performances in their two wins.

He scored a stunning winner in the opening victory over Romania, while he was in equally fine form in the win over Albania, bagging a late second for the side.

While he has found himself among the goals, he has also been a creative force for his country, playing a key part in anything that Didier Deschamps’ side have done well.

So far he has created 14 chances for his teammates, an impressive tally in just two games, regardless of the quality of the opposition.

That leaves him just one short of Zidane’s record of 15 chances created in a European Championship, which he achieved during the 2004 finals in Portugal.

Should he go on to break that record, which looks extremely likely, then it is only going to heighten his burgeoning reputation after a superb Premier League season and a fine European Championships so far.
