According to the Sheffield Star, the veteran forward reportedly turned down the chance to sign a new contract at the the New York Stadium, and is now likely to lead the line with Irish striker Cillian Sheridan at Omonia, who start off the new season with a Europa League qualifier later in the month.
Announcing the news, a statement on Omonia's official website read: “Omonia announces the preliminary signing of 30-year-old English striker Matt Derbyshire – who has been at Rotherham United since 2014. The player has been in Cyprus since June 15 and will undergo a medical prior to signing on.”

It is arguably the most significant signing to be made by Carver, who joined the club after being reportedly turned down by Aston Villa earlier in the year.
The former England under-21 international hit 11 goals in 22 appearances during his time in Athens - a record that will have surely impressed his new boss, who is hoping build up his reputation after a disappointing spell with Newcastle that was brought to an end last summer.
