Middlesbrough want to bring Lee Cattermole back to the club from Sunderland in a £5 million deal, reports the Daily Mail.

Aitor Karanka’s side are keen to improve their squad this summer after sealing their return to the Premier League last season.

They have already signed winger Viktor Fischer, and defender Bernardo Espinosa will join on a free transfer from Sporting Gijon when his contract comes to an end at the beginning of July.

They are not stopping there though, and now eyeing a move to bring one of their former stars back to the Riverside. That man is Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole, who started his career with Boro as a youngster.

Karanka’s side are willing to pay £5million for his services, as the boss looks to add Cattermole’s Premier League knowhow to his side according to the Daily Mail.

Sunderland may be tempted into a sale too, with Sam Allardyce looking to reshape his squad and ensure they are no longer fighting against relegation every season.

He is willing to accept serious offers for players in his current crop and may be tempted to sell should their North East rivals make a bid for Cattermole.
