The AS Roma star has been linked with a big-money move to Everton.

Roma's Strootman holds his head in his hands

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, new Everton manager Ronald Koeman is considering a move for Kevin Strootman this summer.

The Netherlands international recently returned from yet another serious injury but he looks to have overcome his problems and is tipped to be the subject of a £30million bid from the Toffees.

The new Everton boss is reportedly set to receive a £100million war chest this summer but if he is willing to spend almost a third of that on one player it will be interesting to see how things play out.

There is absolutely no doubt that at his best Strootman is a superb midfielder – a player who under different circumstances would surely have followed Louis van Gaal to Manchester United prior to the Dutch manager’s departure.

Instead injuries have robbed Strootman of much of the last two seasons and with his anterior cruciate ligament injury ultimately requiring three separate operations, there are always going to be question marks about his long-term fitness.

For that reason alone, £30million seems a considerable stretch, especially for a player whose current contract expires in just two years. But if Koeman can convince AS Roma to take closer to £20million it could prove to be a superb piece of business.

If Strootman stays injury free he would become a superstar at Everton; but he himself will know that is a big if.

There are other, less risky options out there for Everton, yet in terms of quality the 28-capped Dutch international is among the best in the game, and at just 26 he could still have some superb years ahead of him.
