The 31-year-old's lengthy Liverpool career seems to be drawing to a close.

According to the Liverpool Echo, defender Martin Skrtel is set to leave Liverpool and join Fenerbahce.

The 31-year-old centre-back has struggled for first-team chances under Jurgen Klopp this calendar year and now looks poised to leave the club, having started three games for the Reds in 2016.

The Echo report that the Slovakian - currently on international duty at Euro 2016 - will join the Turkish club for around £5.5 million after the Premier League outfit accepted the bid.

Joel Matip's arrival at Anfield would have only added to Skrtel's shortage of playing time and his eight-year spell at Liverpool looks set to end, after joining the Merseyside club from Zenit St Petersburg in 2008.

Reds supporters will miss the no-nonsense defender but it has been evident for some time that his long-term future is not at the club.

Klopp is certain to add another centre-back to his ranks, having released Kolo Toure in a big statement of intent, considering how excellent the Ivorian was under him, and with Mamadou Sakho's future relatively unclear.
