Carlton Cole has been released by Celtic.
Celtic's Carlton Cole
Celtic confirmed via their official website earlier today they have released striker Carlton Cole.
Cole signed for Celtic last season as a free agent, and struggled to establish himself as a part of the club's starting XI.
Celtic's new signing Carlton Cole shakes the hand of a fan before the game
The 32-year-old made only four league appearances for the Scottish champions, providing one assists but failing to score.
He did manage to net one goal in his only appearance in the Scottish Cup in a 3-0 win against Stranraer.
Celtic's Carlton Cole celebrates at the end of the match
Once hailed as the golden boy of English football after breaking through at Chelsea as a teenager, his poor spell at Celtic sharply illustrates Cole's demise as a force.
Now a free agent, it is unlikely there will be a rush among top clubs for his signature after a lack of regular football over the past year.
His departure is unsurprising, and it offers Celtic an added incentive to sign another striker to boost their options in attack, having also trimmed their wage bill.

I like how the word 'sincerely' is used on the official website when wishing Carlton Cole all the best. When in reality, it isn't sincere.
