Granit Xhaka has impressed for Switzerland at the Euros
Arsenal's new Swiss recruit Granit Xhaka spoke exclusively to the club's official website and discussed what he feels was the highlight of his career.
The 23-year-old pin-pointed a victory over Manchester United in a Champions League fixture while he was playing for Basel in 2011. Xhaka was just 19-years-old at the time, and explained to arsenal.com what that special night meant to him at such a young age:
Xhaka picked Champions League victory over Man United as career highlight
"I think the best moment of my career was a game against Manchester United for Basel. We played in Manchester and drew 3-3, then we played at home and won 2-1 to knock them out and progress to the next round. It was big. Basel were a smaller club than Manchester United and to beat them 2-1 was a very nice moment.”
Following Xhaka's move to London, he will now have the chance to play against Manchester United on a regular occasion, and with Jose Mourinho at the helm at Old Trafford, they will once again be a huge threat to Arsenal's chances of winning the Premier League title.
Xhaka's qualities could help Arsenal achieve success over the coming years
The former Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder has been tipped to succeed in England by his fellow players and pundits alike, who have highlighted his combative style and leadership qualities as reasons why. He has already shown what Arsenal fans have to look forward to with his tremendous displays for Switzerland at the Euros in France, with consecutive man-of-the-match performances for his country.
