According to the Mirror, Chelsea are confident that Everton’s Romelu Lukaku wants to return to the club.
The report claims that new Everton boss Ronald Koeman is keen to hold on to the striker and the Toffees will make a last-ditch attempt to keep him, yet Chelsea are confident he will push for a return to West London.
The Blues originally signed Lukaku from Anderlecht following his impressive rise for the Belgian side.
However, despite showing great promise during loan spells at both West Bromwich Albion and Everton, the powerful forward fell out of favour at Chelsea and the London club were happy for him to leave.
Lukaku joined Everton in a £28 million deal in the summer of 2014, yet the club’s regression over the past two seasons has prompted questions over his future at Goodison Park.
The 23-year-old has made no secret of his desire to play in the Champions League, and with the likelihood of Everton making the top four any time soon quite slim, a move away from the club could be on the cards.
Lukaku is said to be interested in returning to the Blues, though as the West London club found out with John Stones last summer, Everton will not allow their top players to leave so easily.
The Toffees will seemingly do all they can to hold on to the striker, and on the condition they allow Lukaku to leave, Chelsea may have to break their transfer record in order to bring him in.
