Blackburn Rovers have already opened negotiations with Anthony Stokes following his release by Celtic, reports the Daily Mail.

Celtic released Stokes earlier this month after they decided not to exercise an option to add another year to his contract.

He left with a tally of 76 goals in 191 games for the Scottish Champions but had fallen out of favour under Ronny Deila.

He spent the end of last season on loan at Hibernian, scoring in their Scottish Cup final success over Rangers. His form for Alan Stubbs’ side naturally garnered attention, with several Championship sides said to be keen on his signature.

Indeed, Stubbs would like to bring him to Rotherham United after his move while Birmingham City and Cardiff are also interested.

Blackburn Rovers have moved to get there ahead of their rivals though, with the Daily Mail reporting they have already opened talks with the striker.

According to them, new boss Owen Coyle wants to pair him with Danny Graham, who is also available on a free transfer following his release by Sunderland.

Graham scored seven goals in 15 games while on loan at the Lancashire club last season, and has already met to discuss a permanent move to Ewood Park.
