Fiorentina are reportedly weighing up a move for Newcastle centre back Chancel Mbemba.
Newcastle's Chancel Mbemba in action
According to Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, Fiorentina 'really like' Newcastle centre back Chancel Mbemba, and could move for him this summer.
Whilst Newcastle splashed the cash last summer, it was the attacking players like Georginio Wijnaldum, Florian Thauvin and Aleksandar Mitrovic who caught the attention of fans.
They did though snap up Anderlecht defender Mbemba, with the 21-year-old defender representing a real investment for the future given that Newcastle had been relying on veterans Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor.
The DR Congo international had some shaky moments over the course of the season, but was largely impressive, giving Newcastle fans hope that he can lead the Magpies defence for years to come.
However, his displays in his first Premier League season appear to have attracted interest from clubs outside of England, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting that Fiorentina are keen.
The Italian giants, who again qualified for the Europa League this past season with a fifth-placed finish in Serie A, are looking for defensive reinforcements - and Mbemba is on their radar.
La Viola allegedly 'really like' Mbemba, and whilst he's one of a number of targets, Paulo Sousa's men could make a move for the defender this summer.
Newcastle will be reluctant to sell such an important player as they bid to launch a push for promotion back to the Premier League, and Fiorentina may need to stump up a lot of money to tempt Newcastle into a deal.
