Former Liverpool winger Luis Garcia has admitted that he cannot wait for the new Premier League season to start after his old club were paired with Arsenal on the first day of the 2016-17 campaign, whereas ex-Gunners defender Nigel Winterburn added that it was "massive".
The Reds will travel to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, August 13 in a tricky start to Jurgen Klopp's first full season in charge of the Merseyside club.
Although times are yet to be confirmed, it might well be the game that raises the curtain on the new term at 12:45pm as both sides will certainly be looking to mount title challenges.
Nigel Winterburn, who spent 13 years at Arsenal, added: "It's a massive fixture. When I first started playing, Liverpool were the team to beat," he said to Sky Sports.
"Arsenal supporters will be focusing on who else is going to sign for Arsenal football club. That will be the main focus."
By virtue of the fact that it is still only June, it is far too early to predict a winner between the two.
Arsenal have only signed one player so far this summer - Granit Xhaka, for £35 million - while Klopp has only signed a goalkeeper, Loris Karius for £4 million.
There is plenty more business to be done by both sides if they harbour genuine aspirations of winning the Premier League in what might just be the toughest season to date.
Not only is Pep Guardiola taking over at Manchester City, but Jose Mourinho's appointment at Manchester United means that it is sure to be an epic battle for the title.
