Celtic are said to be keen on the Manchester City youngster.
The 19-year-old defensive midfielder (who can also rather surprisingly play up front) is currently on loan at Start, where he has featured 13 times to date, scoring two goals and providing two assists in the process.
That form has allegedly attracted the interest of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, but when asked about suggestions the Bhoys are tracking him, the teenager is quoted as saying, “I’m obviously at Start. I enjoy being here. I do not know anything about it.”
A recent report from All Nigeria Soccer claimed Celtic had approached City about the prospect of bringing the player to Scotland, with Nwakali’s brother saying the Bhoys tested the water for the player with Pep Guardiola’s new club swiftly dismissing the move.
It remains to be seen if Rodgers will return with another attempt to sign the Nigerian in due course, but he is clearly a talented player who looks like having a bright future in the game.
He will no doubt be hoping to follow in the footsteps of countryman Kelechi Iheanacho, who burst onto the scene at the Etihad Stadium last season.
As for Celtic, their search for new talent continues…
