According to Italian newspaper Il Tempo, AS Roma will look to make a move for Newcastle United’s Georginio Wijnaldum on the condition that they manage to sell the out of favour Leandro Paredes.

The report claims that Miralem Pjanic is set to join Juventus and Roma have identified Wijnaldum as his ideal replacement, though any deal could depend on the sale of Paredes first.

Wijnaldum only joined Newcastle last summer yet a superb individual campaign, scoring 11 goals and adding a further five assists, coupled with the club’s relegation has sparked speculation over his future.

While Rafa Benitez is seemingly keen for him to remain with the Magpies, a recent report by GianlucaDiMarzio suggests the club could be willing to sell him for around £24 million.

The report goes on to say that Roma are looking to partner him alongside fellow Holland international Kevin Strootman in their midfield, though his likely high price-tag poses a dilemma.

Leandro Paredes, 21, is an exciting Argentine youth international who spent the past season on loan at Empoli, yet his apparent lack of progress in Serie A could see him leave Roma.

The Italian giants signed Paredes for roughly £4 million (La Pelotona) in 2015, and the club will look to use part of a potential sell-on fee to bring in their new top priority Wijnaldum.
