Speaking to BBC Sport, broadcast June 12th, Thierry Henry has criticised Everton star Romelu Lukaku for his display in Belgium’s loss to Italy.

Belgium kicked off their Euro 2016 campaign on Monday as they took on group rivals Italy in Group E.

Lukaku was elected to lead the line for his country, getting in ahead of Liverpool duo Christian Benteke and Divock Origi.

It proved to be a poor evening from him though as he failed to make any impact in the game, missing one glorious chance to draw his side level in their eventual 2-0 defeat.

His performance was widely criticised by fans and pundits alike, and one of those doing so was Thierry Henry, who blasted Toffees striker for being almost passive in the game.

“We’re quite quick to please him when he plays well and rightly so [but] he was almost passive and his back to the game play was very poor,” he told BBC Sport.

It will now be interesting to see if Belgium stick by Lukaku in this tournament after such an abject performance.

He struggled at the World Cup in 2014 and was quickly dropped in favour of Divock Origi at that tournament.

His performance in this game will not have impressed Marc Wilmots, and there is every chance he will make a similar decision in France this summer.
