Former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky put in a solid performance as the Czech Republic kicked off their Euro 2016 campaign with a slender loss to Spain.

Gerard Pique’s header in the dying stages of the game was enough to give the Spaniard’s all three points in their Group D opener.

Spain dominated for much of the clash as the Czechs held out defensively for much of the game and offered very little offensive threat, limiting the European champions to just a handful of chances at best.

Indeed, the score could have been much different had it not been for the efforts of Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech and his defence.

Rosicky was named as a starter in the game, subsequently becoming both the oldest and youngest player to feature for his country.

He managed 87 minutes before being substituted off, meaning he had more minutes in this game than he had all season for Arsenal after yet another injury plagued year for the midfielder.

Gunners fans were naturally keen to see how their former midfielder got on and offered their thoughts about his display on Twitter.
