Newcastle United should make a move for now soon to be former Liverpool defender Kolo Toure.

Veteran defender Kolo Toure's Liverpool career is at an end, with the Liverpool Echo reporting his release from the club.

The centre-back is unlikely to be short of offers, with The Mail reporting Monaco are keen, but this should not deter recently relegated side Newcastle United from reaching out and trying to land the Ivorian.

Toure may be 35, but he remains a top talent, proving so during Liverpool's Europa League run, with two excellent performances in the semi-finals against Villarreal.

He was a calming influence at the back, still showing he has what it takes to compete at a high level, and would be an upgrade for Newcastle on want-away defender Fabricio Coloccini.

A Premier League title champion with Arsenal and Manchester City, Toure would add a winning mentality to the squad and vital know how to the promotion chasing Toon, and promising talent Jamaal Lascelles could learn a lot from playing alongside him.

Perhaps the biggest factor in helping convince Toure to join Newcastle would be the attraction of working under manager Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard's decision to stay at the club despite relegation was huge, and adding Toure would be another big victory for the club before the season starts, if they can pull it off.
