Villa have been strongly linked with a move for central defender Elphick as new boss Roberto Di Matteo looks to strengthen his side's defensive options at Villa Park.
Elphick has established himself as a key part of the Bournemouth side since joining the club from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2012.
The 28-year-old has helped the club win promotion from League One to the Premier League during his time on the South Coast and is current club captain at Dean Court.
Elphick made only 14 appearances for the Cherries last season after missing a chunk of the campaign with an ankle injury.
Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe is reluctant to lose Elphick, but is bracing himself for further interest in the player as he enters the final year of his contract at the club.
Villa remain hopeful of landing Elphick, but will face competition from Championship rivals Leeds and Cardiff if Bournemouth decide to sell Elphick.
