Niko Kranjcar - Tottenham Hotspur warms up

Former Rangers defender Colin Miller has told The Scottish Sun that the Gers could make a great signing by landing playmaker Niko Kranjcar.

Rangers have already landed Jordan Rossiter and Joey Barton from Liverpool and Burnley repectively, with both representing major coups for Mark Warburton's men.

However, more new signings are wanted, and a former Premier League star appears to be heading to Glasgow sooner rather than later.

The Scottish Sun reported last week that Croatian star Niko Kranjcar, currently playing for NASL side New York Cosmos, is set to sign a two-year contract at Ibrox having been approached by manager Warburton.

The 31-year-old made his name with Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur, and now appears to be on the verge of joining Rangers, adding experience and creativity to Warburton's side.

Ahead of that seemingly imminent deal, former Rangers defender Colin Miller has been speaking about Kranjcar, having gone up against him last season.

Miller is currently managing FC Edmonton, meaning he had a first-hand look at Kranjcar this past season, and admitted he was delighted when he heard that Rangers were looking to sign him after he tormented Edmonton.

Miller added that Kranjcar is a 'quality luxury player' that would be a great signing for the Gers, and could form a superb partnership with former QPR team-mate Barton in midfield.

"When we played them he went off halfway through the second half and we were delighted to see him go," said Miller. "He’d been outstanding. He’s a class player, with that ability to spot a pass and dictate play. I had watched videos of Cosmos’ three previous games and he ran the show in every one. When he went off it was 1-1 — and we won 2-1, which is a bit like Hamilton beating Rangers."

"As soon as I heard Rangers had spoken to him, I was delighted for my old club. He’s not a Stuart McCall type who’s going to buzz about all day. You’re getting ability rather than an engine. He’s what I’d term a quality luxury player. He’ll be a great addition to the Premiership. Niko and Joey Barton have played together before and will be a great Rangers partnership," he added.
