Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Beram Kayal has explained to The Daily Record the similarities between Celtic star Scott Brown and new Rangers signing Joey Barton.
Brown is the current captain of Scottish Premiership giants Celtic and is one of the best players in Scotland. The 30-year-old Scotland international midfielder has been on the books of the Bhoys since 2007.
Meanwhile, Barton has recently signed for Rangers, who won the Scottish Championship title this past season and will feature in the Scottish Premiership during the 2015-16 campaign.
The former Newcastle United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder has joined the Gers on a free transfer after leaving Premier League-bound Burnley.
Former Celtic midfielder Kayal, now on the books of Championship side Brighton, has underlined the similarities between Brown and Barton.
“Of course he is a great player,” Kayal told The Daily Record. “He was strong for Burnley last season. Barton also has experience with big clubs in England’s Premier League.
“Like Broonie he is a fighter for his team and also drives his team-mates in games. Both are terrific players individually and for their teams.”
Celtic and Rangers will be aiming to win the Scottish Premiership title next season.
Brendan Rodgers’s team will start the 2016-17 campaign as favourites, but Mark Warburton’s side will be determined to give their Old Firm rivals a run for their money.
The 2016-17 Scottish Premiership title race promises to be hugely exciting.
