Tottenham double deal for international teammates Janssen and Promes could be stroke of genius

Why Tottenham going double Dutch this summer could be their shrewdest moves of the transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur pushed Leicester close for the Premier League title last season, and will be hoping to mount another push for top spot next season.

Further additions in the transfer market will be key, and two players they have already been linked to could provide the answer.

Dutch international pair Vincent Janssen (linked via The Mirror) and Quincy Promes (via The Mail) would certainly add goals to their attack, but their partnership could be even more valuable.

Janssen is Holland's answer to Harry Kane and would be battling the England striker for games in attack, while Promes is a winger who has a real eye for goal.

He netted 18 times for Spartak Moscow last season while Janssen scored 27 Eredivisie goals.

In the short term the two Dutchmen will be rested up and raring to go after their country failed to qualify for the European Championships, and could hit the ground running, while helping each other to adjust to life in North London.

The lack of involvement at the Euros also protects their price tags from being inflated, making them potentially Levy-approved bargains.

But from a longer term view, the pair could develop the playing relationship they have already established recently for Holland and take it to a new level with Tottenham.

Spurs are in need of quality wide men after allowing Lennon and Townsend go over the past year, and Promes, 24, would be an ideal candidate.

If they pull off just one of the deals then, in itself, it will be laudable, but if Tottenham can do both, then it will really be time to get excited.
