The Hammers player was the star of the show on Friday evening as he set up the first goal and scored the second in their opening game win of Euro 2016.
It was a highly impressive display from Payet, who has firmly established himself as one of the key men in France’s midfield.
The performance earned rave reviews from fans and pundits alike, although it was unsurprising to those who have seen him shining in the Premier League this past season. Giroud was one of those impressive by the display, saying he nearly played a perfect match.
"He played the almost perfect match, he could have finished the game with five or six assists if we'd taken out chances better," he told Sky Sports.
"He's taken on another dimension. Let's hope there are other big nights like this, so 'Thank You Dimitri.'"
Payet will now be hoping to continue the fine form he showed in the Romania game for the rest of the tournament.
There is huge pressure on Didier Deschamps’ side as they seek to win the competition on home soil.
They will need their big players to show their best in the big moments if they are to be successful and they will be hoping that Payet can produce like he did against Romania once again.
