The Glasgow Rangers midfielder was highly critical of Roy Hodgson.
England looked set to be heading to their first opening game win at a European Championships as they led Russia courtesy of Eric Dier’s superb free kick. However, a late header from Vasili Berezutski secured a point from the jaws of defeat.
It was a highly disappointing result for England, who had created numerous chances in the game but failed to convert them.
They came in for stern criticism after the game and Barton was one of those unimpressed, but he aimed his complaints at Roy Hodgson on Twitter.
England's problem is not the players they played well tonight. It's the coaches and manager so so negative with substitutions.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) June 11, 2016
Game was crying out for Vardy. Should have been on after 1st goal when Russia had to attack. To stretch them and put game to bed.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) June 11, 2016
That is an average Russian side at best. 2 points dropped tonight. Should still win the group.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) June 11, 2016
The pressure will now be on England to secure a win against Wales when the two sides meet next week.
They will know that they should have beaten the Russians given the performance they put in during the game.
They will face a tough clash against Chris Coleman’s side though, who will be full of confidence after their opening win over Slovakia on Saturday.
