England took on Russia in their Euro 2016 opener on Saturday, drawing the game 1-1.
The Three Lions had looked to be set for all three points after Eric Dier’s superb free kick had put them into the lead, before a late header from Vasili Berezutski secured a point from the jaws of defeat for the Russians.
It was a highly disappointing result for Roy Hodgson’s side given they had created numerous chances in the game and arguably deserved to win.
There was much criticism from fans and pundits alike, but Balague says that the view of the display was very different in Europe.
Brilliant words about an exciting #ENG in European press as they look at performance. Negative words heard in England as they look at result— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) June 12, 2016
That England looked exciting, very English if you like but in a very good way. Best team of the tournament so far. https://t.co/jFR19YA0dB— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) June 12, 2016
It will now be interesting to see if England can bounce back quickly from this disappointing result to try to progress from their group.
Next up is rivals Wales, and although England will be quietly confident of a win, they will know that beating Chris Coleman’s side will not be an easy task.
They are full of confidence following their opening win over Slovakia, and England will have to be more clinical than they were against the Russians to secure all three points.
