Sunderland have been linked with another defensive reinforcement.
According to a report from French newspaper L’Equipe, Sunderland are interested in signing Rennes left-back Cheikh M’Bengu this summer.
The 27-year-old featured 25 times for the French side last season and he has a total of 89 appearances for them. But with his contract expiring at the end of this month he will soon be a free agent.
That appears to be of interest to Sunderland, with their manager Sam Allardyce needing to considerably strengthen his side to ensure they are not fighting another relegation battle next season.
The Black Cats boss proved to be a canny investor during the January transfer window and now he must do it again.
M’Bengu is a Senegal international who has been capped 27 times for his country to date. Prior to playing for Rennes he turned out 159 times for Toulouse, scoring two goals and providing five assists in the process.
So could a swift move be on the cards next month? Only time will tell but expect Allardyce to be busy in the coming weeks.
