Sterling started the Group B game at Stade Velodrome in Marseille and played for 87 minutes.
The Manchester City attacker did not have a good game, as the Three Lions played out a 1-1 draw with Russia.
During his time on the pitch, Sterling, who can play as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, created two chances.
The 21-year-old had a pass accuracy of 82%, won five of the seven dribbles he attempted, and committed two fouls.
Sterling did not have a great season for City during the 2015-16 campaign, as he could score just six goals and created only 35 chances in 31 Premier League appearances.
The England international joined the Citizens from Premier League rivals Liverpool in the summer of 2015.
Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to have their say on the performance of Sterling for England against Russia on Saturday evening.

That's a substitution made in @LFC Summer 2015.— Craig Kendall (@craigsteruk) June 11, 2016
Sterling out and Milner in.
...and then you remember LFC got £50,000,000 for sterling! Ah, just never gets old that!— Mark Chambers (@I_Am_Chambo) June 11, 2016
I'm glad we sold Sterling when we did, wouldn't be worth 49p now let alone £49 million #lfc— Brandon Harrison (@brandonjh14) June 11, 2016
