England's Eric Dier celebrates after scoring against Russia
Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that he thinks Tottenham star Eric Dier could become England captain one day after another fine display against Russia.
Dier started for England in holding midfield as they kicked off their Euro 2016 campaign against Russia - and the youngster was the unlikely goalscorer, as he gave England the lead with a superb free kick.
However, England were ultimately left to rue missed chances as Vasili Berezutski sent a looping header over Joe Hart and into the net in added time.
There wasn't a great deal for England fans to shout about in the end, but the performance of Dier was one of the very few highlights of the night.
The 22-year-old, who thrived in holding midfield for Tottenham this past season, again impressed in that position as he shielded the England defence, broke up play and then scored a super goal.
Dier - who could have played for Portugal - is now an England star, and former Tottenham, Liverpool and England midfielder Jamie Redknapp has told Sky Sports that he thinks Dier could even become England captain one day.
Pundit Redknapp believes Dier is getting better and better, and was left very impressed with his performance against Russia as everything England did went through him.
"One of the real positives was Eric Dier - I thought he was fantastic and looks like he's getting better and better," said Redknapp. "If he carries on improving, then he's got that England captaincy look about him. He looks like a captain."
"He's got so much authority in the way that he players and is super bright. Every good thing England did seemed to revolve around him. I was very impressed," he added.
