Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with the signature of Vincent Janssen this week.

It has been reported in the UK and Holland that a deal was on the horizon. Sky Sports reported that AZ gave the Dutch international striker permission to speak with Tottenham yesterday – but that no fee had yet been established, although £12 million is the rumoured asking price.

With Janssen seemingly high on Tottenham’s wishlist, rivals have emerged in his pursuit. Voetbal International claimed that Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are also keeping tabs on him.

One former Ajax player who did not cut it in the Premier League is Andy van der Meyde. The former Everton player, who flopped in English football, spoke about Janssen to EK Daily this week and had this to say:

"He needs to go to England.

"I’d like to see him come to Amsterdam

"What would I recommend for Janssen? That is up to the person. Maybe he's wiser than me. But he must put aside half of his money and not touch it. Then it's still safe after your career."

Van der Meyde played just 24 times for Everton during a four-year stint, failing to score, and struggling with personal problems off the pitch.

If Janssen does make the move he will certainly be hoping to be a bigger hit in English football than the former Everton hell-raiser at Tottenham Hotspur.
