Arsenal should move for Everton’s John Stones

Everton defender John Stones would be a good signing for Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

It is clear to one and all that Arsenal need to sign a quality central defender in the summer transfer window.

Per Mertesacker is slow and past his best, while Gabriel has yet to fully convince the fans.

The versatile Calum Chambers is still developing, which leaves Laurent Koscielny, who is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

Koscielny alone cannot solve the Gunners’ problems at the back. The France international needs to be paired with someone capable in central defence next season in order for Arsenal to be successful.

That ‘someone’ should be Everton defender John Stones.

True, Stones is still developing and can make occasional mistakes, but his talent is undeniable and so is his quality on the ball.

The England international central defender, who can also play as a right-back, is just 22 years of age, which means that he can still learn and develop his game, but he has a lot of experience playing regular first-team football.

Arsenal are very much a passing team, and adding Stones is only going to enhance that.

During the 2015-16 season, the youngster had a pass accuracy of 89% for Everton, while in 2014-15, it was 90%.

Ideally Arsenal should be signing a world-class central defender this summer, but the likes of Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva, Leonardo Bonucci and Jerome Boateng are not going to move to the North London outfit.

Wenger is known to work well with young players and mould them into stars, and he should be looking to snap up Stones.

There may be competition for the services of the England international this summer, but Arsenal should at least make a move and give it a try.
